Physical Features
Mokuhala is a narrow, steep, pyramid shaped column of basalt rock located west of Mokumana near Pauwalu Point Wildlife Sanctuary. The islet is about 0.3 acres in size and 55 feet at its peak. Access is very difficult due to the steepness of the entire island.

Regulations
The islet is a State Seabird Sanctuary managed by the Hawaii DOFAW. Regulations in Hawaii Administrative Rules, Title 13 Chapter 125, protect wildlife and plants and restrict human activities in seabird sanctuaries. Federal law also protects seabirds, shorebirds, and threatened or endangered species.

Birds
Observations in the 1980s indicated that Black noddies nest on Mokuhala.

Plants
An aerial survey conducted in April 2005 recorded 6 species of plants; 3 native and 3 introduced. The dominant plant cover is naupaka, interspersed with grasses and sedges. Contrary to the islet’s name, hala trees were not observed.

Insects
No insect survey data is known.

Marine Organisms
No marine survey data is known.

Human Uses
No human uses are known.

Threats
The main threat is the invasive weed, lantana.
